Make Sure You Zinc Before You Sneeze
|
Zinc is one of the most common minerals found in your body and is neccessary for almost every single function of your cells, including maintaining a strong immune system.
Zinc is an essential mineral that plays a key role in your body's immune system. Without it, we wouldn't be able to make the right antibodies to fight off infections and would easily get sick.
Each year there are around 200 different viruses that make up the "common cold". Scientists have yet to find a legitimate cure, but this study showed zinc may reduce the duration of your cold by as much as 50 percent, especially if you are deficient.
How is this possible?
Besides strengthening your immune system, zinc has shown to help prevent the cold virus from replicating and growing. This is how it's able to decrease your cold duration. But, in order for zinc to do its job, it must be taken within the first 24 hours of your cold symptoms, according to research.
A 2008 report in The Journal of Infectious Diseases, found that zinc lozenges cut the duration of colds from seven days to four and reduced coughing from five days to two.
While it is essential, your body does not store zinc, so it's important you get enough from your diet every day. However, getting too much can be just as hazardous as getting too little as you can mess up the mineral content in your body.
So, while zinc lozenges may be the next thing you grab at the drug store, please keep in mind that food sources are the best form to help maintain healthy levels.
Also, for you athletes that don't eat enough foods high in zinc, supplementation is very important as it is lost in heavy amounts through your sweat.

Effects Of Structural Correction On Immune Function
|
More than 1.2 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV, and 1 in 8 of them don't even know it. To this date no effective cure for HIV exists.
What is HIV?
HIV stands for human
immunodeficiency virus and if left untreated, can lead to
AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). Unlike some other
viruses, once you have HIV you have it for life as your body can't get rid of it completely.
HIV is very dangerous because it directly attacks your body's immune system by going after your CD4 cells. These CD4 cells act as your body's private army as they help defend against certain infections and diseases.
HIV reduces the number of these cells in the body, which can make you more likely to get sick and acquire certain diseases that we don't usually get anymore such as pneumonia and tuberculosis.
Research
This study looked at the effects of Structural Corrective Chiropractic Care on the CD4 Counts of 10 HIV Positive Patients. These participants were divided into a control and an adjusted group. After 6 months of care, the control group experienced a 7.96% decrease in their CD4 cells while the adjusted group experienced a 48% increase (P=0.06).
When a Structural Chiropractor corrects a Structural Shift in the spine, there's an improvement in the communication from the central nervous system to the target immunological tissues. When these tissues receive better communication, there can be an increase in the production of CD4 cells to help strengthen the immune system.

How Sunlight Improves Your Immune System
|
In this 2016 study, sun light was found to stimulate the production of hydrogen peroxide, which boosted the activity of CD4 cells. As mentioned above, these CD4 cells are white blood cells that are involved in maintaining a healthy immune system by fighting off infections.
We all know the importance of vitamin D from sunlight and it's role in maintaining a healthy immune system from one of our previous Realm Updates, but did you know that as little as five to ten minutes of sun exposure is all that's needed to naturally boost your immune system?
How so?
Besides giving off beneficial UVB light for vitamin D conversion in your body, sun light also gives off blue light. This type of light is capable of energizing your CD4 cells, which as mentioned above, are the infection-fighting cells that help you build and maintain a strong immune system.
So next time you feel the symptoms of a cold coming on eat some zinc-rich foods or take some supplemental lozenges, find a Structural Chiropractor who can detect and correct Structural Shifts, and lastly get outside for a few minutes and build that immune system up with natural sun light!
